Entry level (beginners) courses
These courses are suitable for those who are new to learning the language and will introduce you to the language and the country through basic conversation, reading and writing activities.
You will develop confidence in using the language through topics such as social contact/family/occupation, shopping, eating out, making reservations, or booking a hotel room.
Teaching methods include games, reading, role plays, videos and interacting with others.
Level 1 (improvers) courses
These courses are for learners who have completed the Beginners course (or equivalent). The courses will extend your basic understanding by introducing a range of more complex structures such as different tenses, extended sentence structures and prepositions.
This will be done through topics related to holidays and travelling in the country, such as:
- describing future and past holiday and travel experiences
- booking tables or accommodation
- making complaints
- buying tickets for
- gathering information regarding public transport, key cultural aspects, and tourist information
You will work in pairs, groups and individually.
Level 2 (intermediate) courses
These courses are for learners who have completed the Improvers level (or equivalent).
The aim of the courses is to further develop your confidence and ability to communicate. Learners will put their vocabulary and grammar knowledge into practice.
This will include using a broad variety or phrases across the different topics.
You will be applying specific concepts, such as sentence structure, and include elements like adjectives and adverbs into your phrases to form complex sentences.
This is done through topics related to holidays and travelling in the country.
Teaching methods include a range of tasks, as well as activities and games to develop your vocabulary and understanding of grammar and syntax in a range of situations. You will work in pairs, groups and individually.
Advanced courses
These courses are suitable if you have completed the Intermediate level in the language or have a comparable level of language learning.
Over the course of the year, you will explore a range of social and cultural issues.
Topics will be negotiated with you at the outset of the course sections depending upon your interests and needs.
Teaching and assessment methods include exercises and tasks using different media, practising all four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, often working in pairs or small groups, and involving a lot of speaking in the language.
