Alternative provider access to NCL learners to provide impartial IAG policy

Policy statement

This policy sets out Newcastle City Learning’s (NCL) arrangements for managing the access of other education and training providers to NCL’s learners for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the Newcastle City Learning’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

Learner entitlement

All learners are entitled to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including further education, apprenticeships, supported internships and careers provision.
We have a Careers team who offer all our learners the opportunity to receive confidential and impartial information, advice and guidance. We want to encourage you to identify your career goals so that you can meet your full potential. We use the latest labour market information to help you make informed decisions on your learning, training and employment.

The Careers team can help to:

• Develop a career plan
• Search and apply for jobs
• Write CVs, covering letters, application forms
• Improve interview techniques
• Gain work experience and volunteering opportunities in the local area
• Meet with employers, universities and training providers
• Attend careers fairs and events
• To hear from a range of local providers about opportunities, including apprenticeships

Procedure

If you are a provider and want to request access, please contact wendy.mudie@newcastle.gov.uk, you can also call us on 0191 2774652 or email NCLCareersservice@newcastle.gov.uk

We will require appropriate paperwork to be completed and approved prior to your visit which may include, but is not limited to, providing evidence of an up-to-date DBS check.

Providers must comply with our Safeguarding Policy.

We will not unreasonably refuse a request for access but retain the right to do so if any safeguarding or other requirements to ensure the safety of our learners and staff are not met.

Premises and facilities

Newcastle City Learning will make the main hall, classrooms or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. Newcastle City Learning will also make available AV and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with the Careers department.

Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature with the Careers department, who will make it accessible to Newcastle City Learning students.
