Supported internships
Our Supported Internship is for young people aged 16-24 who have an Educational Help Care Plan (EHCP). We run assessment days for potential applicants around March / April time, and young people come in and carry out a range of tasks and communication activities.
We work in partnership with DFN project Search and Northumbria University. The interns are on programme for a full academic year and this includes four days on campus across a variety of work placements and one day in college to do maths and English.
This is a highly supportive programme, and the aim is for the interns to gain independent paid employment. Although we cannot guarantee this, there is a high level of support in place to accomplish this.
“The Supported Internship is incredibly good, and the staff are incredibly supportive. I was nervous when I first started, but the team got me back to my jolly self. I loved my work placements and when I had a job interview for a café and got the job I was over the moon! I would not be where I am today if it was not for the staff .”
